John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit through his songs of pop-folk, many of which were based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state has drawn a lot of people to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the curator of this hall of fame said: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado as John Denver." In 2011, Denver was named the first Hall of Fame inductee. Denver has become the image of Colorado for a lot of people across the globe. In my travels, I've met people from New Zealand or the other side. If you inform that you're from Colorado, the first words they'll say is Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a short career performing in small folk-based bands comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the song in conjunction with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver heard an early version it was clear that the song could be the next hit single. Following the performance at Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver recorded it just days afterward.
